Rewari farmers celebrate cancellation of land acquisition

Farmers who were on the warpath against the land acquisition for setting up of Multi-model Logistic Hub in Bawal Industrial Town today celebrated its cancellation by distributing laddoos and bursting crackers.
They also expressed their happiness by greeting each others for the successful culmination of their struggle which forced the government to give in to their demand.
The Bhumi Adhigrhan Virodhi Sangharsh Samiti also formally announced the cancellation of the proposed Kisan Mahapanchayat in Aasalvaas on December 27.
“There is a festival-like situation in all 16 villages whose land was acquired. More than two years of struggle has borne fruit and we are all enthused by getting our fertile land back,” said Ram Kisan Mehlawat, chief of the samiti.
Earlier, a group of elated farmers led by Bhajan Lal distributed laddoos and ‘gur’ among the people at Paatuhera and Aasalvaas villages. Farmers at Bakhapur village burst crackers and hailed termed the government’s decision.
Rao Nihal Singh of Bolni village said: “The BJP government has won the hearts of poor farmers by fulfilling its poll promise. This decision has protected the farmers from devastation. We cannot express our happiness in words,” he added.
A group of farmers today called on Union Minister Rao Inderjit and expressed his gratitude for getting their demand accepted.
Setback for Rewari, says Capt Yadav
Former minister and Congress leader Capt Ajay Yadav said the government should have awarded farmers Rs2 crore per acre as compensation instead of quashing the acquisition process. Shifting of the project was a setback for Rewari, he said.
